Products – Villa Cod

The cold, deep fjords of Norway's Atlantic coast are the natural home to cod and to the Villa cod farms. Wild cod has been over-fished worldwide, but the human demand for this delicacy continues to rise. The solution, as we see it, is to support a new generation of farmers who combine experience with the indigenous species and a strong commitment both to the environment and to the health of the fish.

Villa's farmers are just such farmers, raising cod in low density circular pens suspended in 500-600 metres of icy Norwegian sea, and using sustainable methods for feeding and maintenance. Strong tides keep clean water circulating through the pens. No antibiotics, hormones or harsh cleaning agents need to be used. The fish can grow and thrive in a facsimile of the wild that is integrated into their historic breeding sites. A state-of-the-art feeding system captures excess food, preventing waste and reducing the impact of the farm on the fjord. Filets are prepared pre-rigor so they reach your customer fjord-fresh. It is this environmentally-sensitive approach to farming that will allow the best, cleanest and tastiest cod to continue to be brought to the table now and in the future.
